Assessing discriminatory risks in HR practices with internal processes

Published on Friday 19 May 2023

In an age where anything can be measured, assessing the impact and effectiveness of a company’s equality, diversity and/or discrimination prevention policy depends on the company's ability to self-evaluate and question its internal processes.

For the past twenty years, many companies have been "continuously" measuring their improvements and identifying their points of progress, by reproducing periodic assesments such as testing, statistical analysis or perception survey.

However, many organisations remain unaware of the tools available to them, how they are to be implemented. They may be hampered by the cost of these measures, which are certainly valuable, but require a certain financial investment.

AFMD and ISM CORUM have joined forces to encourage the development of HR statistical assesments among AFMD member organisations.

In recent months, we have conducted a collective diagnostic operation and we have worked to analyse 75 assessments carried out between 2006 and 2023 to draw lessons and courses of action to get employers involved and provide them with appropriate tools.

Our analysis is based on three types of internal processes to assess discriminatory risks in HR practices:

  • Volunteer Testing
  • Statistical analysis of application files
  • Statistical analysis of career management files

These results will be published in September 2023. The publication emphasises three key learnings:

  • The need to explain the results of the assessments that are carried out,
  • The opportunity to identify faulty practices,
  • The possibility of adapting assessments to meet the needs of all structures: large and small, private and public.
